Welcome to Shop Blind!
Welcome to the Shop Blind Experience
Presented by Two Blind Brothers + Shopify
Two Blind Brothers (2BB), an online charitable brand dedicated to finding a cure for blindness, started by blind brothers Bradford and Bryan Manning, is excited to be holding their first in-person Shop Blind Challenge! For this Giving Tuesday, 100% of the sales at the event will be donated to the Foundation Fighting Blindness.
What is the Shop Blind Challenge?
2BB customers love the Shop Blind experience online, so we had to bring you the opportunity to try it in person. The idea is that you will have the opportunity to “Shop Blind” and put your trust in others, just like blind and visually impaired people do on a daily basis. The Shopify space is filled with Shop Blind Challenge tote bags containing mystery items, and once you purchase your tote, you will be able to reveal what’s inside the bag.
Why should I Shop Blind?
The Shop Blind Challenge is simple, place an order and get a mystery package. By “shopping blind,” you are placing your trust in 2BB, the same way blind and visually impaired people trust others every single day.
If Brad cannot read the menu at a restaurant, he might ask the waiter for a recommendation. If Bryan is unsure what stop to get off at on the subway, he might ask the person sitting next to him to tell him when the train is at the right stop. Ironically, by relying on others in these small acts of trust, blind and visually impaired people can gain more independence and feel empowered.
When a person Shops Blind, they prove that genuine trust is real. They prove that they not only care about what a company sells but also what it stands for. They prove that when you face a challenge, you should embrace it.
How does this help the blind community?
- 100% of the sales from this event will be donated to research through the Foundation Fighting Blindness.
- Some of the items are made in part by organizations like Industries for the Blind in North Carolina that hire blind workers.
- You become part of our growing family. You prove that empowerment and inclusion of the blind community are important. You prove that what a company stands for is just as important as what it sells. You become someone who can share this experience with someone else. Because of you, we have the best community of customers that any project could ever dream of having.
Is this really what it’s like to Shop Blind?
Not exactly!
A common misconception is that blind people can see nothing at all. However, that is just not the case. Blindness is a spectrum and roughly 90% of blind people can see something, but what they see is not a one size fits all description. Someone can be legally blind and still see colors, shapes and varying degrees of light. Only about 10% of people who are blind see nothing at all.
For Brad and Bryan, the Shop Blind Challenge isn’t about literally simulating the experience of being blind, it’s about putting the customer in their shoes - having to rely on the kindness of others and trusting that they won’t steer you wrong. We hope that you trust us to take the Shop Blind Challenge!
Where do the proceeds go?
100% of all sales from this event, and 100% of the profits every other day of the year, go to the Foundation Fighting Blindness, toward research programs that are developing therapies for retinal eye disease cures.
Thank you for joining us and helping us get one step closer to curing blindness!
