2BB April Update

Here is what happened lately!

Video Transcription

Bryan:
This is Bryan from Two Blind Brothers, as well as my brother..

Brad:
Hey, it's Brad and it looks like you got the Free Matter for the Blind card.

Quickly I gotta tell you about this. This is actually a program launched by USPS many decades ago to allow folks who are blind or visually impaired to send mail.

So, this is sort of an experiment for Bryan and I to be able to send this out to people like you and frankly what I'm excited about is it brings some attention to one of those things that actually exists in the blind and visually impaired community that not a lot of people know about to put it to some good use to just spread some love and education.

And on that front...

Bryan:
This might be the most important video I've ever made because it goes to you through a medium that is truly extraordinary.

Brad:
You know, Bryan and I want to tell you this experience has been absolutely incredible. People like you that have been part of this community have made an incredible difference. We see it every day in all the activities that we do.

Bryan:
We wouldn't be here. We wouldn't be able to touch so many lives. We wouldn't be able to interact with so many amazing folks. We wouldn't be able to donate as much as we have to retinal research. And it is all because of you.

We realized that we wanted to give you an update on what's happening at Two Blind Brothers, what we've been up to.

Brad:
We've gotten to get in front of a lot of groups recently, a lot of like optometrists groups and people who are in the eye health space.

Bryan:
We just had an amazing event over at Vision Expo where all the largest eyewear manufacturers in the world come together and we got to share your stories with optometrists across the country. The real amazing thing is they don't get to hear them as often as we do from this community.

So the stories that you tell us, the emails that are sent, we get to then go pass those on to the people on the front line, helping each and every day! Get your eyes checked, by the way, if you haven't.

Brad:
We get to deliver a message that's almost like a megaphone for the people in this community. We get to be a cheerleader of the work that these folks are doing, the optometrists or the ophthalmologists. It just happens to be a very exciting time in history where people who work in the medical field are living through medical revolution.

Bryan:
On a 2BB front, maybe the most adorable things we've ever created are coming out here very soon. By the time you get this letter and this video, they might already exist.

Brad:
We have a Golden retriever, a German Shepherd, and a Poodle who will be making their presence known very soon.

Bryan:
We put all the love and energy and passion we could into each and every one of 'em because the symbolization of guidance and trust and care is just so beautiful.

Brad:
We're having some fun helping the foundation fighting blindness with a fundraising dinner they do in May. It's actually the event we launched Two Blind Brothers at six years ago now. We've always had sort of a special night at this gala and raises a bunch of money for FFB and gives us a chance to thank these people in the room who've really been coming for six years and they've watched the growth of this project.

On this card we mentioned your greatest challenge is your greatest gift. It's so funny, some people get confused about that message cuz like who wants challenges? But I think the thing that Bryan and I have learned is that in life it's that friction. It's those uncomfortable moments that put you under that stress. That's where your creativity, your resiliency, your assertiveness, all the skills you learn, that's when they really come to fruition.

Having bad eyesight gave us a lot of those gifts. Bryan and I talk about having to get up a foot from the blackboard when we were kids and how that taught us about being resilient and assertive.

And it's a message we try to share with a lot of kids and families that are recently diagnosed because it gives you context to understand that life is all about these challenges and it's not the cards you're dealt in life that we're measured by, we're measured by how we play the hand.

Bryan and I want to end this by telling you how grateful we are.

Bryan:
With the biggest, most heartfelt thank you I can possibly muster you're truly extraordinary.

Brad:
I could talk forever about the stuff going on, but we'll leave it here and just hope that you're doing well.

Bryan:
Thank you for being a part of our community.

Brad:
- and you'll hear from us soon!

There are lots of types of blindness. We have Stargardt's, a type of macular degeneration that means we lose vision in the center of the retina. This simulator gives you peek at what its like to peep with our peepers.
